39th Board Members
As the 39th Board, we are excited to continue building our community of Anthropology students at UvA. You will see us strive to create engaging events and trips independently or in collaboration with the Anthropology Department, the Faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences, and other Study/Student Associations. In these events and trips we aim to make meaningful memories for students and teachers and create the space to imagine Anthropology within and beyond Academia.
We hope to create a network for both International and Dutch Bachelor and Master students to feel grounded and at home in the hustle and bustle of the city of Amsterdam ❤️

Daren Neesken (She/Her)Hi, I’m Daren, a second-year Anthropology Bachelor student at UvA. I’m Indonesian, born and raised in Jakarta 🇮🇩 and I serve as the Chair and Promo Coordinator of CASA.
As Chair, I oversee the internal workings of our board and committees to help guide CASA towards achieving its goals. And as Promo Coordinator, I run the Promo Committee, shaping a strong identity for CASA and promoting events throughout the year.
Additionally, as CASA’s representative on the board of the Fv-FMG (Faculty Association for the Faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences), I also serve as the chair of the Fv-FMG. In this role, I aim to strengthen collaboration with the 9 FMG Study Associations, the FMG Faculty Student Council, and the Faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences at UvA.

Troy de Vries (He/Him)
Hello everyone, I’m Troy, this year’s Treasurer of CASA.
I’m a second year, Dutch with Singaporean roots 🇳🇱🇸🇬 and I’m stoked to handle the financial side of things, alongside my position as Travel Coordinator. My role is to open doors for CASA through sponsorships, managing transactions, and overseeing budget plans. I will support my board in making everyone’s experience the best it can be.

Basil Kafka (They/Them)Hey, I’m Basil (they/them), I’m a non-binary Czech person and I will be this year’s Study Coordinator of CASA. As the Study Coordinator, I am heading the Study-Conference Committe, which plans events that often have to do with Anthropology.
I also try to keep an overview of how the study is for people, and have connections with the department, so if you want to talk about your study here, you can talk to me.

Liam Huijgens (He/Any)Hi my name is Liam, I am the secretary for CASA ✨
I’m a second year Anthropology Bachelor student with Dutch-American roots 🇳🇱 Beside reading/writing emails, doing administrative tasks & abusing my free coffee privileges, I keep the board balanced and strive to maintain a healthy communication with both the department and the student body. This year I will take an active role in social safety as one of our internal trust persons as well as digital accessibility as web manager for LaSSA. I hope we can make everyone feel welcome, listened to and supported. Here’s to another extraordinary year together 💜

Juliana Smidova (She/Her)Eyoo, I'm Julie from Slovakia :) I'm so excited to meet all kinds of people in all kinds of sitatuations and that's why I decided to be the social coordinator. If you have a good dad joke, DnB recommendation or wanna just talk about nothing and everything, I'm happy to be here for you :)
Social Safety
As your board, It is important to us that our members are able to feel safe for the events we put on and the environments we sanction. Which is why we have a confidentiality (trust) person in our board.
A confidentiality person is for if you have personally witnessed or experienced anything distressing within the CASA network (digital or in-person).
They are here to provide you a judgement free space where you can freely express your feelings, share details about sensitive topics, and ask for support in de-escalation and stopping unwanted behaviour.
Any and all things brought to our confidentiality person WILL NOT BE SHARED WITH ANYONE UNLESS THEY HAVE BEEN GIVEN EXPLICIT PERMISSION. For extreme cases a confidentiality person may advise someone seek professional support, but never without consent.
There will also be an external confidentiality contact made available, which we will have publicly listed as soon as possible.
